Families First For Mississippi/Greenwood Open House and Ribbon Cutting!

Our main goal for Families First for Mississippi is to impact the entire family by connecting the dots between all of the Mississippi family services.

Greenwood (5/17/18) – The Mississippi Community Education Center (MCEC) and Family Resource Center of North Mississippi (FRC) proudly announce the grand opening of the Families First for Mississippi Resource Center in Greenwood. The Greenwood center celebrates its grand opening on Wednesday, June 6, at 1506 Huron Street in Greenwood from 2:00- 4:00 PM. Special guests include Delta Radio, who will host a live remote, and Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams, who is expected to make a brief statement. The Greenwood- Leflore County Chamber of Commerce will present the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 2:30 PM. The community at large is welcome and invited. Through various free community outreach programs and workshops, Families First stimulates employment through job readiness, supports family financial stability, promotes literacy, and increases graduation rates while continuing to support positive youth development, decreases in teen pregnancy rates, positive fatherhood involvement, parenting education, and parenting skills development. Components of the new, full- service center include a professional clothing donation closet for job readiness, an education and literacy computer lab, a hands- on career development and workforce training room, and parenting and fatherhood programs, as well as other life skills workshops. Additionally, a “family room” houses a toy lending library and reading corner for families and children. The rest of the newly constructed and modernly furnished building includes six spacious offices for the staff of seven, a large reception area and contemporary conference room, an IT room, office supply room, marketing and media closet, full kitchen, and two large parking areas with handicap accessibility. While the organization is part of a state- wide operation, the Greenwood center is home base for this region and is responsible for a territory of four Delta counties including Leflore, Carroll, Montgomery, and Humphries. Media Coordinator, May McCarty, covers an additional two counties, adding Holmes and Attala.
